Secure your home routers and Wi-Fi devices
20:40:00
Hope you all know that routers / Wi-Fi devices can be hacked but a recent discovery found new way of hacking home internet routers or Wi-Fi devices. The hackers are able to put remote code execution type on your router and can easily access all devices connected to that router during internet access. The hacker can copy all data from your Laptops/PCs that are connected to the home router or Wi-Fi devices. Also they send an email to your you claiming they have copied all your data.
Consider it as high priority to secure your routers & Wi-Fi devices. Here are steps to help you secure your home router / Wi-Fi device for preventing any hack. Do not connect your laptop/PC to home routers / Wi-Fi devices unless you complete the below steps :
- Reset your router to factory default.
- Most routers / Wi-Fi devices have basic firewall features, please enable for sure.
- Disable PING & SSH to all ports on your router.
- Disable HTTP & HTTPS on WAN & LAN ports. Enable HTTPS only on LAN port for accessing your router from within your home network.
- Update your home router firmware to latest date.
- Speak to your ISP and change your routers public IP or DHCP IP.
- Set complex passwords to your router.
- Enable MAC ID based authentication for Wi-Fi access.
- If your router doesn’t have the above features such as disable PING, SSH, HTTP, basic Firewall & MAC ID filtering etc., we strongly recommend please stop using this router immediately and go for a new router which can support these features as these are basic and minimum security for home routers.
Please note, If your router is already hacked and any data had been copied, there is no way of recovering the data or to fix the hacked router as of now.
